Vote of thanks

Dear All,

Though we all had a fun-filled evening on 30/10/2011 celebrating Onam for the second time this year, time ran out fast and the food-call was so alluring that we inadvertently missed the vote of thanks. This is a rare phenomenon (as rare as VSM missing Onam celebrations or Annual Day!)that may happen once in a blue-moon and I personally apologize to all those generous hearts whose presence, participation and generosity made the evening so enjoyable.

Let me now show my deepest appreciations, gratitude and acknowledgments to the people/organizations who/that gave us the wonderful evening.
I bow to the generousity of our sponsors:
M/s Kottakkal Arya Vaidyasala - Rs.5000
M/s Flyjac - Rs.5000
Sri Mohanan - Rs.3500 (towards gifts)
M/s World Confederation of Warriers - Rs.1001
Sri Sarath Chandran - Rs.1000
Sri A V Unnikrishnan - Rs.500

I congratulate:
The cultural committee for having done a wonderful job of spotting, bringing together and preparing the performers, and all the participants for giving us the pleasure of enjoying their performances.

I appreciate and thank:
World Confederation of Warriers for representing itself through Mr T V Ramachandran (President) and Mr Suresh Warrier (Secretary) and having given a description of what WCW stands for and what it aims at.

I applaud for:
The people who took time and effort and made attending our program a priority for the evening and also for applauding and encouraging our performers and participants of various competitions.

Last but not the least, I celebrate:
Being one among an able and energetic group of executive committee members to have been able to discuss, plan, organize and participate in the program for everyone's pleasure.

Looking forward to having more memorable evenings with our members in future,

Thanks and warm regards,
Ramdas R Warrier

Know our member

Dear members,

From this month on, VSM plans on putting up a brief but exhaustive FACTS-Profile about our members every month. The details would include noticeable achievements(within and outside the Samajam), mile-stones, contributions in any field, etc.

A write-up, preferably around 200words, is invited from all members about themselves OR any member known to them. The same will be added to our existing database and published on this blog. Our elder members are expected to send in the write-ups first since the profile will be bigger and richer than the younger members, generally.

We will have facts of a new person every month. This will help our members know our Samajam's greatness and the people we are bonded to through the Samajam.

Ideas and suggestions are always welcome...

ANNUAL REPORT
Dear Members

I have great pleasure in placing before you, the report of our activities for the year 2010-2011, along with the audited Balance Sheet and Income and Expenditure statement for the 12-month period ending March 31, 2011.
We have now completed 28 years of existence, and we can say with pride that we have indeed come a long way from our humble beginnings. We have tried out a few innovations like creating a common e-mail ID, which has been well received by our members. Other than Google Group and id’s on ORKUT and FACEBOOK, we now have our own blog vsmchennai.blogspot.com where we update news, achievements and general discussions related to the Samajam. We hope to generate more participation from the youth in our midst, giving us fresh ideas to take this organization forward in this Digital Era. We are also continuing the process of digitizing our archives with the 500 GB portable Hard Disk bought last year. We request all members to kindly e-mail scanned copies of any photographs of earlier functions to our e-mail ID, so that we can create a permanent record for future reference. We also invite further suggestions from our members to improve the level of participation by our members in our activities.
We have approximately 250 members in our Samajam, of which about 160 are life members. We request the remaining members to convert their membership to life membership at the earliest. We also request all members to keep track of Warriers migrating to Chennai, and inform the Managing Committee, so that we can increase our membership.

COMMITTEE MEETINGS

We had 8 committee meetings during the year, hosted by our committee members, during which decisions on policy matters were taken after thorough discussion.

ANNUAL GENERAL BODY MEETING

The present managing committee was elected at the AGM held on July 25th 2010, which was attended by around 50 members and their families.

FINANCE

As always, especially during these trying times, this particular aspect continues to be a cause for concern. Even with the enhanced deposit, income from Interest alone is not sufficient to conduct our programmes. We have been meeting the additional expenses through donations and sponsorships from our members and non-member organisations. We record our sincere thanks to all the members and organizations who have donated generously to make the various events possible.

CULTURAL ACTIVITIES

The first event of the year has always been the ONAM Celebrations. This year too, ONAM was celebrated on Octoberber 3rd 2010 at the Kerala Samajam Hall.
More than 80 members and their families attended the function. There was wide participation in the music and dance progwrammes held on the occasion. The function ended with our traditional “Onassadya”.
We celebrated our Annual Day on January 30th 2011, at the Kerala Samajam Hall. A variety of music and dance programmes were presented on the occasion by the members and their families. More than 90 families attended the function, which concluded with dinner.

OTHER ACTIVITIES

Merit Awards were presented to the children of our members who secured the highest marks in the 10th and 12th Standard Examinations, during the last AGM. The Samajam felicitated newly married members / children of members with token gifts.

We record our deep sense of grief at the passing away of some of our members and relatives of members during the past year. The office-bearers have, wherever feasible, conveyed their condolences in person. May the departed souls be blessed with everlasting peace.

I conclude with a word of thanks to all the office-bearers and committee members, who have pooled their resources to enable our programmes to be conducted smoothly. Special thanks to Mrs. Sreelatha Chandran and Mrs. Latha Ashok for overall co-ordination and support for the cultural activities and also to Mrs. Rathi Venugopal for getting the accounts ready on time. Our Senior members have been a source of tremendous support and encouragement and I thank them for their generous praise for our efforts. My sincere thanks to all our members and their families for their whole-hearted support and participation in our programmes. I also extend my thanks to the Management of the Kerala Samajam for allowing us to use their auditorium for our Onam and Annual Day functions. And finally, to our Auditors, M/s. M.R. Ramachandran & Co., thank you very much for the timely completion of our Audited Balance Sheet and accounts.

With regards
(Sd/-)

Annual Day 2011 - Drawing Competition

I know its been quite some time we had our annual day and posting it on our blog took some time, but I'm finding it difficult to cut the video and split it into individual performances. So till I am done with that, we can appreciate our kutti-talents who did some splendid job in the drawing competition. Meanwhile if anyone can offer me help cutting the video and posting it on our youtube profile I'll be glad :-)

Inviting all to our Annual Day 2011 - Talent Hunt!!!

Dear Members/future members,
Wish you all a Very Happy and Prosperous New Year!!!
The month of January is the time for us to celebrate our Annual Day, and this year, we’re celebrating the occasion in a different way on Sunday, the 30th of January 2011, from 5.00 pm onwards at Madras Kerala Samajam Hall, Poonamallee High Road, Egmore, Chennai – 600008. (Phone: 2641 1813).

Though we are cultural and art-promoting people, we have not been able to bring out many hidden talents in our Samajam, not considering those who do come and display their talents on different occasions. Hence, this annual day celebration has a theme with a purpose. We are bent upon digging out the best of the best talents in our community. With this aim, we invite you to take part in this fun-filled, nail-biting and exciting Talent Hunt ever organized by VSM...

Broadly, we are open to performances of any nature which can display a participant's talent in the best way possible. It could be through dancing and/or singing (classical, western, folk, or any other), mimicry, instrumental, oratorical, literary, drawing, intelligence or any other talent that you think can mesmerize the audience.

We invite members of all age groups to participate in full strength with your entire family in the 'TALENT HUNT 2011', the specifics of which are given below:

> All participants should register their names with Smt. Latha Ashok on 2626 2969 / 81220 00140, or Smt. Srilatha Saratchandran on 2641 1932 / 4204 2670, on or before 23rd of January, 2011 beyond which we will stop accepting registrations. (Age no bar!)
> Performances can be individual or in group, though the prize will be for the soul and brain behind the performance (whom we may call the leader of the group).
> We will have a panel of judges who will decide who deserves the Talent Hunt Prize, and the judges' decisions will be final (no pre-event influencing will work here, since the judges will be announced only on the occasion!!!!)
> Since the Hunt starts from 5pm onwards, all participants and their families shall be present on-time for the event to avoid cancellation of performances.

The day will see other performances of a non-competitive nature too (like songs, mimicry, skit, etc.) and  will, of-course conclude with a buffet dinner. Members can also collect their copy of the “Varier Samajam” calendar on the occasion.

Thanking you in anticipation and looking forward to meeting you all,
Yours faithfully,
Sd/-
